Wake up early to see the absolutely incredible sun rises over the Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range; and then witness the phenomenal sunsets as these same mountains to the east will often turn pink here in the lower San Luis Valley.
This is a raw land listing. It is off the grid and sits at about 8500 ft in elevation. The dirt road is also known as Costilla County Road 18.9. It is maintained by the county. The closest town is San Luis, the oldest town in Colorado! There's a lot to explore in this valley that is surrounded by mountains. Travel north to Fort Garland where the fort is now a museum or to the Great Sand Dunes National Park and much more. It's easy to drop down off the Wild Horse Mesa and right into New Mexico. Here you can visit places such as Red River and Taos, and then still come back to your base camp on Mesa East at the end of your day's adventures.
Bring a camera when you visit as the you never know when you'll see wild horses or other wildlife along the way.
